The 64-year-old former Heartland FC head coach was laid to rest amidst an outpouring of emotions and tributes from the football fraternity.

Coach Obi’s untimely demise occurred while on his way to Abakaliki for a pre-season match ahead of the NPFL25 season. The fatal accident involving the Heartland FC bus shocked the nation, leaving family, friends, and fans in mourning.

As the remains of the veteran coach were committed to mother earth, heartfelt condolences poured in from across the country. Heartland FC, where Coach Obi spent many years shaping the team’s success, led the tributes. “Today, we say goodbye to a true legend, a father figure, and a master tactician,” said a statement from Heartland FC. “Coach Obi’s legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the successes he achieved on the pitch.”

The Nigerian football community, including players, coaches, and officials, took to social media to pay their respects.

“Rest in peace, Coach Obi.
