A Nigerian couple has spoken out about their traumatic encounter with police officers in Owerri. In a TikTok video, the wife recounted how they were arrested, assaulted, and extorted while taking their baby to school.
The incident began when the couple decided to drive their child to school after the school bus failed to arrive. During the trip, the wife asked her husband to stop so she could buy food. While parked, a car pulled up beside them, and individuals identifying themselves as police officers stepped out and began attacking the husband.
Despite the wife’s protests and demands for an explanation, the officers refused to provide any reasoning and told her to come to the station. Shortly after, they returned and took her into custody as well.
During the ride to the station, the officers allegedly assaulted the wife for questioning them, while her husband watched helplessly. She claimed that both she and her husband endured over 20 slaps and verbal abuse before the officers demanded ₦500,000 for bail.
When the husband refused to pay, he was repeatedly slapped while in handcuffs. After intense pressure, he eventually agreed to pay ₦150,000. Once the money was handed over, the officers released them but took their car key.
Determined to retrieve their car key, the couple chased after the officers on a motorcycle. When the officers noticed, one of them ran after the wife, who managed to escape by seeking refuge at a nearby car wash.
The wife expressed her frustration and outrage at the police, stating, “Police officers are thieves. If any of them passes away, they should be thrown into a dustbin. They are evil and very wicked.”
