Many react as boy in the Peak milk advert with Kanu Nwankwo reveals he was paid 50 kobo

A resurfaced advertisement from the early 2000s has been thrust back into public attention following the release of a viral video in which a man claims to have been the young boy featured alongside former Super Eagles captain Nwankwo Kanu in the iconic Peak Milk commercial.

The nostalgic ad, widely remembered for the line “Papilo, one day you will make us proud,” had been broadcast extensively on television and radio during its time.

In the clip shared via Tunde Ednut’s official Instagram page, the man confidently recounts his role in the commercial, stating that he had been paid only 50 kobo for his participation. He noted that despite his parents’ initial resistance to his involvement, representatives from the advert team visited his school and successfully persuaded his teacher, which ultimately led to his appearance in the shoot.

The video has since triggered a mix of reactions across social media. While a portion of viewers have expressed skepticism over the authenticity of his claim, others have found his account believable and reflective of how child actors were often undercompensated in past advertising deals. Some commenters also jokingly referenced the tagline, quipping that “Papilo nor con later make us proud,” thereby adding a layer of ironic humor to the discourse.

The ongoing online discussion has not only revived interest in a cherished piece of Nigerian advertising history but has also drawn attention to long-standing issues surrounding compensation and recognition for minor roles in popular media.
