The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has begun the long-anticipated disbursement of ₦44,000 arrears to corps members, following a delay in the full implementation of the revised minimum wage.

This confirmation was made by the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, who stated that the payments are already in progress and are being handled in batches. The arrears represent the difference between the former ₦33,000 monthly allowance and the newly approved ₦44,000, which reflects the ₦70,000 national minimum wage plus a 10% addition, as endorsed by the Federal Government in July 2024.

Despite the approval in mid-2024, the actual rollout of the increased allowance did not commence until March 2025, creating a backlog of unpaid months. The current payment is therefore aimed at clearing the outstanding balance for corps members who served between July 2024 and March 2025.

During the Batch A 2025 Pre-Mobilisation Workshop held in Abuja, Brig. Gen. Nafiu reassured both currently serving and recently passed-out corps members that no eligible individual would be excluded from receiving their arrears.

The news has been warmly welcomed across the country, with corps members expressing relief and happiness as the government fulfills its promise to align NYSC allowances with the new wage structure.
