A trending video featuring popular Nigerian content creator and comedian Promise Kelvin Anagbogu, popularly known as Lord Lamba, has stirred conversations online as it sheds light on why many Nigerian celebrities avoid prolonged stays in the United States.
In the video, Lord Lamba is seen making candid remarks about the financial realities that influence the lifestyle choices of entertainers.
According to his statements, most Nigerian celebrities—including top singers like Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido, and Tiwa Savage—who frequently travel abroad, especially to the U.S., tend to return to Nigeria within a short time, often spending no more than two weeks overseas. This trend, as explained by Lord Lamba, extends beyond musicians and includes actors, actresses, comedians, and other content creators.
The main reason cited by Lord Lamba for their brief stays in the U.S. revolves around the high cost of living. He pointed out that the constant pressure of paying bills in U.S. dollars could quickly exhaust one’s finances. According to him, “the bills in the United States can make someone go broke,” stressing that maintaining a lifestyle abroad requires steady and substantial income, which is often not sustainable for many.
Although these celebrities are known to travel internationally, Lagos remains the primary base for most of them. The city offers a more familiar environment, lower living costs, and closer proximity to their fan base and work opportunities, making it a more viable option for their careers.
This report offers insight into the economic factors influencing celebrity travel and residency decisions, and it presents Lord Lamba’s observations in a way that is informative, respectful, and aligned with responsible digital content standards.
Lord Lamba says; “You wonder why you see most of your celebrities come to United States and two weeks they are back home, you dey craze, you go pay bills, you think it is Nigerian bills, you will pay bills now, you go pay bills, you go broke. I want come to united states, your earn in dollars, bro the bills is on dollars, you will pay your bills in dollars, you will broke.
I dare any content creator to come and stay in the US for six months if you no broke, make I bend.”
