A Nigerian father has been reported to have shared his distressing experience at Emirate Mall in Ilorin, after he and his daughter were allegedly denied entry by a security official due to the child’s physical condition.
The account was made public through an emotional video posted on TikTok, in which the man recounted the humiliation he said was endured during what was intended to be a simple shopping trip. In the video, he expressed disappointment over the treatment received, stating: “I’m very disappointed. I took my baby here for shopping, but it’s so sad that the security officer sent us out because of my baby.”
According to the father, no clear explanation was provided at the time by the security personnel, though it was implied that the child’s unspecified condition may have been the reason for the refusal of entry.
In a later update, it was revealed that the Chief Security Officer of the mall had intervened, at which point both the man and his daughter were eventually allowed access into the premises. The intervention has been acknowledged by the father, though the emotional toll of the initial encounter was evident in his narration.
Since the video was uploaded, it has garnered widespread attention and gone viral across various platforms. The incident has sparked significant reactions, with many online users expressing outrage over the initial treatment and offering words of encouragement and support to the father and his child. Others have called for greater sensitivity and inclusivity in public spaces, especially toward individuals with special needs or visible conditions.
