A Nigerian lady identified as Oluwa Damisi has publicly called out the Nigerian Immigration Service after discovering that her application form, containing personal biodata, was used to wrap and sell Akara (bean cakes) to a stranger.

The incident was revealed through a post she made on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

According to her, the form had been submitted as part of her application to the immigration agency. However, a copy of it somehow ended up in public circulation and was eventually used as packaging material for street food. The man who received the Akara wrapped in her document recognized the sensitive nature of the content and contacted her directly to inform her.

Oluwa Damisi also shared a screenshot of their conversation, expressing concern over the violation of her privacy and the careless handling of her personal information.

Her words …

“Omo @nigimmigration @NISResponseNG why is it so easy for someone’s privacy to be breached??! Someone just texted me on WhatsApp with a picture of my passport application slip, and it was used to sell akara.

The slip contains every single information about my life rn

This is not even funny. The guy then asked for my pictures on top 🤦🏽‍♀️”

See some reactions below;

@RowlandJ_nior said: “Okay I’m shocked at this one. And I noticed how you played cool with him, just to keep him sane”

@Sam_Olayemi1 wrote: “Data breach is not peculiar to Nigeria. Even in the US and Europe, data breach happens. We can simply ask the government agencies to do better without denigrating Nigeria.”

@olatayoadewuyi stated: “If them explain Nigeria give you, you no fit understand.”
