The Dangote Group has issued an official statement via its X (formerly Twitter) page, promising to compensate Otabor Ruth, the sister of Big Brother Naija star Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, after a recent truck accident.
Earlier, Entertainment Region reported that activist VeryDarkMan had called out the company after one of its trucks allegedly struck Ruth, a graduating Auchi Polytechnic student, leading to the amputation of one of her legs.
Phyna later confirmed her sister’s identity as the victim and accused billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote and his company of interfering with investigations by instructing police to remove the truck’s plate number. The reality TV star warned that although Dangote may be influential, “he isn’t God,” and vowed to pursue justice.
In its response, the Dangote Group expressed its “unwavering commitment” to the victim’s recovery. The company pledged to cover all medical costs, ensure proper compensation, and extend best wishes for her speedy recovery. The statement did not address Phyna’s claims about police tampering but emphasized that the company takes the matter seriously.
This pledge from Africa’s largest conglomerate comes as public scrutiny intensifies, with many Nigerians demanding accountability and transparency in the handling of the case.

Phyna, however, slammed the tone of the statement, describing it as ironic considering the gravity of her sister’s injuries. She noted that the leg had already been amputated and questioned the urgency of the company’s response.
“Appropriate compensation? Quick recovery from an already amputated leg? What necessary speed are you taking right now? Let’s not forget the bike man, who is also in critical condition,” she wrote.
