Afrobeats sensation Asake is facing online criticism from Nigerians after contributing only N5 million to support the ailing policewoman featured in the viral ‘Help me Help me’ video, which he incorporated into his song.
The policewoman, Mrs. Helen, gained widespread attention last year when she was seemingly ‘kidnapped’ by a motorist, and her distress call, “Help me Help me, e dey carry me go where I no know,” was later used by Asake in his track, PBUY.
Unfortunately, Mrs. Helen recently suffered an accident in the line of duty, resulting in a broken leg. In her plea for assistance, she revealed that she had been taken to three different hospitals, all requiring a total of 1.5 million naira for her treatment.
Upon learning of the incident, Asake responded with a donation of 5 million naira. However, this amount has been criticized by some Nigerians, with one individual, Dr. Penking, expressing the view that Asake, having profited significantly from the song, should have contributed a more substantial sum.
He wrote:
“Asake used this woman’s audio “Epp Me. Epp me. E dey carry me go where I no know” in his hit song PBUY without any settlement . That song made over 500 million in streams . This woman got into some health issues, Asake sent only 5 million after intense dragging sef. Remember that same Asake bought a house of 136 million just 2 months ago. Nigerians are not good people.”
