Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has granted pardon to Segun Olowookere, a man who was sentenced to death for stealing a fowl in 2010. Olowookere was just 17 years old when he was arrested and convicted. He has spent the last 14 years on death row, despite his parents’ efforts to prove his innocence.
The governor’s decision to grant pardon to Olowookere comes after the latter’s parents appealed to him for help. The parents had claimed that their son was wrongly accused and sentenced to death. They also stated that they had sold their properties to secure their son’s release but were unable to do so.
Governor Adeleke has directed the Attorney General to initiate processes to grant prerogative of mercy to Olowookere. The governor stated that he recognizes the separation of powers in democracy but has directed the Commissioner for Justice to intervene in the matter.

I still don’t get it o or his parents have done something in the past or can stealing a fowl and not killing a man warrants death by hanging? May we not walk in the day of evil people in Jesus name.
