Tragic footballer Diogo Jota’s widow, Rute Cardoso, could inherit up to £35 million from his estate, securing the future of their three young children, MailOnline has reported.
The Liverpool forward, 28, died alongside his 25-year-old brother, André, in a car crash in Spain last week, just days after marrying Rute in Portugal.
Jota began his Premier League career with Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2018, earning £38,000 per week. Over two years, he amassed £3.95 million before securing a high-profile move to Liverpool, where he earned £83,000 per week in his first two seasons, totaling £8.63 million.
In 2022, his contract was extended for five years with a pay rise to £140,000 a week, bringing in an additional £21.84 million up until his untimely death.
Jota was also known for his off-pitch ventures, including his role as an Esports entrepreneur and brand ambassador. He had been set to earn another £14.5 million from the remaining two years of his Liverpool contract, which the club is reportedly considering honoring.
If fulfilled, Rute and their children — Dinis, 4, Duarte, 2, and baby Mafalda, 8 months — could inherit the full value of his Premier League earnings, estimated at £34.4 million.
