Nigerian activist VeryDarkMan is overjoyed after President Bola Tinubu ordered the immediate release of minors who were arrested for displaying a Russian flag during a hunger protest. The minors were involved in the #EndBadGovernance protest that swept across the country in August.
President Tinubu’s directive also includes investigating law enforcement agents involved in the arrest, detention, and prosecution of the minors, with disciplinary action to be taken against those found culpable. Additionally, the President has tasked the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction to ensure the minors’ welfare.
This development comes after public outcry following viral videos of the malnourished minors fainting in court. VeryDarkMan, who had promised to create a GoFundMe account to meet the bail conditions, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for responding to public pressure. He also praised lawyers who defended the minors in court.
President Tinubu, who took office in May 2023, has made significant moves in his presidency, including appointing a new National Security Adviser and purging the leadership of the armed forces.
