A serious aviation scare involving Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has been brought to public attention after he reportedly escaped a potential plane crash.
The incident occurred mid-air when one of the aircraft’s engines failed during a flight to Lagos.
The revelation was made through a video post shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by a user identified as @ChuksEricE. In the video, Wike was seen recounting the disturbing experience, providing a firsthand narration of how events unfolded during the flight.
It was explained by the minister that his wife had earlier traveled to Lagos to bring their daughter home, successfully landing at the Air Force Base. Later that same day, Wike had decided to join a separate flight from Port Harcourt to Lagos in order to meet someone described as important.
The engine failure reportedly occurred mid-flight, prompting serious concern among passengers and crew. Fortunately, a tragedy was avoided, and the aircraft was eventually brought to safety.
The event has sparked public interest and concern, particularly regarding aviation safety and emergency response protocols in Nigeria. The incident has also been widely shared across social media, with many expressing relief that no lives were lost.
However, just 15 minutes after takeoff, things took a dramatic turn. “My wife went to Lagos to bring my daughter, they landed at the Air Force Base. I was waiting, so I said let me go to the Air Force Base. When they land, I’ll just enter a plane and go to Lagos,” he narrated.
He continued, “Fifteen minutes after takeoff, the air hostess was running. I asked what the problem was. She came back and told us one engine is gone.”
Despite the scare, Wike confirmed that the pilot managed the situation well by diverting the flight and safely landing back in Port Harcourt instead of proceeding to Lagos.
