A Nigerian Instagram user, known as Makeup Affairs, has come under fire for her comments following the tragic death of Liverpool star Diogo Jota and his brother André Jota in a car crash on July 3, 2025.
The backlash erupted after the lady took to social media to ask whether Jota’s wife, Rute Cardoso, would automatically inherit his properties. She stated that her question was “just out of curiosity,” but many users found the timing and nature of the question to be insensitive and inappropriate.
With emotions still raw over the sudden loss of the 28-year-old footballer, several netizens slammed her for showing what they described as a lack of empathy and respect for the grieving family. Others cautioned against turning such a sensitive matter into social media speculation.
Despite the criticism, Makeup Affairs has not issued any public apology or clarification regarding her post.
Her post reads,“Out if curiosity, will the wife get his properties because it’s just 11 days after wedding. So will the wife have access to all his properties and assets?. Please don’t insult me na question I ask”.
Recall that Diogo Jota and Rute Cardoso, tied the knot on June 22, 2025, in Portugal.
It’s worth noting that the couple had been together for about 12 years, having met in high school in Porto, Portugal.
