Grammy-winning Nigerian music star Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, has stirred significant online attention following a bold and controversial statement aimed at fans of his long-standing rival, Davido.
The drama began under a blog post discussing Burna Boy’s highly anticipated upcoming album titled “No Sign of Weakness.” A Davido supporter, using a profile photo featuring Davido’s latest album 5IVE, dropped a mocking comment saying: “Damage control oshi”—a clear jab suggesting Burna Boy’s album rollout was a response to Davido’s recent success.
In a heated clapback, Burna Boy didn’t hold back. He replied directly to the troll, declaring:
“I swear, any Davido fan wey try listen to my new album go deaf.”
This intense reaction has since gone viral, sparking heated debates across social media platforms. While some fans found Burna Boy’s comment humorous or in line with his no-nonsense persona, many others have criticized it as unnecessarily aggressive and disrespectful—especially given the increasing calls for unity among Afrobeat artists.
The rivalry between Burna Boy and Davido has long been a topic of interest in the Nigerian music scene. Both are global superstars with loyal fanbases, and while they have occasionally taken jabs at each other publicly, this latest episode adds a new layer of tension.
As the release of “No Sign of Weakness” approaches, it remains to be seen whether Burna Boy will further address the backlash or allow the music to speak for itself. Either way, his fiery statement has undeniably built more buzz around the album.
He wrote; “Wahala!!! “I have sworn on my album, and any low-IQ Davido fan who listens to it will suffer permanent deafness.”
