Afrobeat sensation, Tiwa Savage, has unveiled her inaugural feature film titled ‘Water and Garri,’ set to be exclusively released on the popular movie-streaming platform, Prime Video.
In this cinematic venture, Tiwa Savage assumes the lead actress role as Aisha, an aspiring fashion designer whose successful career in the U.S. compels her return to her homeland following a family tragedy. The film, featuring the talents of Mike Afolarin, Jemima Osunde, and Andrew Bunting, explores the complexities of Aisha’s life as she grapples with a changed landscape marked by increased violence and heightened tensions during her decade-long absence.
Directed by Meji Alabi, the movie delves into Aisha’s journey of reconnecting with family, old friends, and a past love while navigating the shifting dynamics around her. As she copes with emotional scars and confronts lingering guilt from her past, ‘Water and Garri’ promises a compelling narrative.
The film’s production is credited to Jimi Adesanya, with Comfort Emmanuel contributing to the screenplay, and Tiwa Savage herself providing the music. The executive producers include Savage, Vannessa Amadi-Ogbonna, Adesanya, and Alabi.
Tiwa Savage, who recently took a hiatus from her music career, shared the exciting news on her Instagram page, revealing that ‘Water and Garri’ is scheduled for release in 2024 exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
She wrote, “Guys, I’m so excited to announce that my first feature film #WaterAndGarri will be released *this year *through @primevideo and shown in over 240 countries and territories worldwide 🥰🙌🏽🥳🥳🥳🥳😁😁😁🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾”.
