Popular Nigerian comedian Adesokan Adedeji Emmanuel, widely known as Shank Comics, has opened up about his family’s religious background, particularly how his father transitioned from Islam to Christianity under unexpected circumstances.
The revelation came during a casual interaction with a fan he encountered while in Canada. The fan, assuming Shank was a Muslim due to his name, was surprised when the comedian clarified that he is a Christian.
Shank explained that although he bears the name Saheed, which is of Islamic origin, it was given to him because his father was initially a Muslim. However, his father later converted to Christianity — a decision prompted by a moment of hardship.
According to Shank, the turning point came on a day when his father was extremely hungry and had nothing to eat. In that vulnerable state, he visited a church, where he was offered food. Deeply moved by the kindness shown to him in that difficult moment, he decided to embrace Christianity from that day forward.
