Yoruba Nollywood actor Kazeem Abimbola Ibrahim, popularly known as Jigan Babaoja, has lost a multimillion-naira ambassadorial deal with Rods Hotel and Apartment following his alleged involvement in a controversial WhatsApp group chat linked to the late singer Mohbad’s case.
The development came after social media activist Verydarkman (VDM) accused Jigan and other celebrities of pretending to seek justice for Mohbad while allegedly participating in private conversations that contradicted their public stance. The accusations led to a heated exchange between Jigan and VDM, which went viral across platforms.
Shortly after, Rods Hotel and Apartment released an official statement announcing the termination of their six-month contract with Jigan. The company cited its commitment to integrity, justice, and the rule of law as the reason for cutting ties, clarifying that the decision was made to uphold their values and was not intended to imply guilt or tarnish Jigan’s reputation.
The hotel noted that the endorsement was still in its early stages but chose to forfeit the investment rather than risk compromising its brand image. The company also expressed its support for ongoing efforts to secure justice for Mohbad, whose death in 2023 sparked widespread controversy and investigations into industry-related issues.
Many fans have praised Rods Hotel for its action, comparing it to earlier reactions from the entertainment scene, such as the cancellation of shows involving Zinoleesky during the Mohbad controversy. Several social media users also pledged to patronize the hotel for standing by what they called principled accountability.
Jigan is yet to issue an official response to the terminated deal.
