A horrific incident has occurred in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, where a middle-aged man, Mr. Sunday Obiozor Nwana, allegedly set his wife, Mrs. Blessing Chioma Nwaka, on fire over accusations of infidelity. The victim, a mother of six, suffered severe burns and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday morning.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect had accused his wife of engaging in extramarital affairs, leading to a heated confrontation. In a fit of rage, he allegedly poured fuel on her and set her ablaze. The suspect later presented himself at the Abagana Divisional Police Station, confessing to the crime.
In a video interview with the Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs, the suspect claimed he acted out of annoyance and did not intend for his wife to die. He expressed remorse for his actions, stating, “I feel so bad, if not for the children, I would have killed myself too. I did not know she will die.”
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation on social media, with many calling for justice and stricter laws against domestic violence.
