Mixed reactions as Father and mother-in-law get intimate during omugwo after daughter and husband invite them abroad

A highly unusual domestic situation has been reported online, involving a Nigerian woman who recently gave birth abroad. The woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, was said to have been left in a state of shock after it was discovered that her father and mother-in-law—both of whom had traveled to assist with omugwo—had become romantically involved during their stay.

The report was made public through a post on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) by user @ChuksEricE, who shared a video in which a lady narrated the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to the narration, the woman, following the birth of her child, had invited her father to travel abroad to participate in the omugwo tradition, which is a form of postpartum care deeply rooted in Igbo culture. Due to the passing of her biological mother, the responsibility was entrusted to her father. Simultaneously, her husband had arranged for his mother to join them overseas for the same purpose, thereby ensuring the couple received adequate familial support during the postpartum period.

For the first two months, the cohabitation of both parents-in-law was reportedly smooth and harmonious. However, matters took an unexpected and disturbing turn when it was discovered that a romantic relationship had developed between the two elders.

The post read in part “Her father came to do omugwo because her mother is late, and the husband arranged a visa for his own mother too. Everything was fine at first. But after two months, they began an affair and kept it a secret.”

The truth only came to light when the woman decided to review some video clips at home to check on her baby—and was shocked by what she saw.

As the story went viral, it sparked mixed reactions online, with many expressing disbelief and disapproval in the comments section.
