A Nigerian man has been reported to have demanded a full refund of all financial expenses incurred during his previous relationship, following a breakup initiated by his ex-girlfriend after he experienced financial difficulties.
The incident was brought to public attention through a TikTok post shared by the woman involved. In the post, she disclosed that her ex-boyfriend has allegedly refused to accept the end of the relationship and has continued to press for compensation.
According to the content of the video and accompanying caption, the man was said to have sent a series of voice notes in which he demanded the return of everything he had spent on her during their time together. Among the items mentioned was an iPhone 11, which he claimed to have purchased for ₦330,000. The phone was specifically highlighted as part of what he expected to be returned or reimbursed.
It was further implied that the breakup occurred shortly after the man fell on hard times financially, a development that seemingly contributed to the woman’s decision to end the relationship.
The video has since gone viral on social media, generating a wide range of reactions. While some commentators have criticized the man for attempting to reclaim gifts given during a romantic relationship, others have sympathized with his frustration, viewing the situation as a reflection of transactional dynamics in some modern relationships.
The incident has reignited discussions around gift-giving, entitlement, and emotional accountability in dating, particularly in cases where financial support plays a significant role.
One of his voice messages stated: “If you want me to move on, calculate all of my transfers to your account and send it back. I’ve moved on. I told you I have a new girlfriend.”
“I had good plans for you—that’s why I spent my last card on you. But you left when I was broke. Now I’m back.”
He further warned her to return the money and the phone or face consequences. “If you don’t want to keep seeing my messages, send all my money back.”
“I need to take care of my new girl. My phone is still with you—send my money for the phone. If you don’t want trouble, return it. I know your house, and I’m not playing.”
