In a video that’s circulating on social media, the well-known Canadian rapper and singer, Drake, sent a message to Davido after Davido lost in all three of his Grammy nominations at the 66th Grammy Awards.
The award ceremony took place at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 4th, 2024.
Despite being a disappointing night for Nigerian singers like Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, Ayra Starr, and Olamide, who all lost in their combined 10 nominations across different award categories, Drake had some encouraging words.
In the video, Drake, who has won Grammy Awards himself, told the nominated artists that they are already heroes. He emphasized that the Grammy Award is not an absolute measure of success, mentioning that the Grammy Awards show represents the opinions of a group of people whose names are kept secret.
Drake praised the artists for their incredible talent and pointed out that having regular fans show up in various weather conditions to buy tickets is a victory in itself.
In his words; “All you incredible artists remember this show isn’t the facts, it’s just the opinion of a group of people [whose] name are kept a secret (literally you can Google it). Congrats to anybody winning anything for hip hop but this show doesn’t dictate shit in our world.”
