Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has addressed the serious leg injury he sustained during the Club World Cup quarter-final match against Paris Saint-Germain, saying “nobody is to blame” for the incident.

The 22-year-old Germany international fractured his fibula due to a broken ankle following a collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma on Saturday.

Musiala returned to Munich the following day and underwent successful surgery. He is expected to be sidelined until at least November, ruling him out of action for the next four months. In his update posted on Wednesday, Musiala remained positive and thanked fans for their support, stressing that the injury was simply part of the game.

Although Donnarumma sent his well wishes on social media, saying, “All my prayers and well wishes are with you,” the incident has drawn criticism from within Bayern’s camp. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer called out the PSG shot-stopper for “taking a risk” in the way he challenged. Bayern sporting director Max Eberl also expressed concern, noting that while Donnarumma likely didn’t act with intent, he failed to exercise necessary caution. Despite the emotional fallout, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany referred to the collision as an “accident” and avoided placing blame directly on the Italian goalkeeper.

He said;

“Thank you for all the love and support I got from all of you,” Musiala said in a video posted to social media. “It really means a lot to me.

“It is nice to see how the football world comes together in a time like this and I really appreciate it. The surgery went really well. I am in good care.

“I wanted to say that there is nobody to blame for this. Situations like this happen and now I am going to use this period of time to build up my strength and positivity again. I am looking forward to seeing you guys again.”
