A disruption was reported at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos on Wednesday, involving former Edo State governor and current senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole.
The incident reportedly took place at the Zulu Terminal of the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) following the senator’s late arrival for a scheduled Air Peace flight to Abuja.
According to eyewitness accounts, the flight had been set to depart at 6:30 a.m., but by the time Senator Oshiomhole arrived, the aircraft had already taken off. It was alleged that, upon discovering this, the senator and members of his security detail proceeded to block the terminal’s departure gate, thereby preventing other passengers from proceeding with their travel plans.
Efforts were reportedly made by the terminal manager to manage the situation and restore order. However, the senator was said to have declined to vacate the area, resulting in significant delays and momentary chaos within the terminal premises.
The standoff was eventually brought under control following the intervention of the regional airport manager. While no official statement has yet been released by the senator’s office or the airport authorities, the incident has stirred public discourse on the expectations of conduct for public officials in shared travel spaces.
The episode has raised concerns about passenger rights, the responsibilities of airport security personnel, and the importance of maintaining operational efficiency and order in public transportation hubs. As more details emerge, calls for accountability and professional decorum in such high-traffic environments have continued to be voiced online.
A social media user, @n6oflife6, who claimed to have witnessed the incident, wrote: “Adams Oshiomhole caused serious problems at MM1 this morning. He came late for his flight, and after the plane took off, he and his security team blocked the departure point, insisting nobody else should fly out until they sorted him out. I never see this kind of thing before.”
The post quickly sparked reactions online, with many users expressing their disapproval and sharing their experiences with flight delays and VIP interference at Nigerian airports.
As of now, there has been no official statement from the senator regarding the incident.
