Netizens have begun voicing their disappointment in popular Nigerian activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) following his recent interview with controversial show promoter Sam Larry.
The backlash stems from VDM’s perceived soft approach during the interview, where Sam Larry once again denied involvement in the assault and alleged bullying of the late singer Mohbad.
Mohbad, born Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, died on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27. Although his death was partly linked to medical negligence by an unlicensed nurse, viral clips before his passing showed instances where Sam Larry and his associates were seen assaulting him. Mohbad had also publicly spoken about being harassed and threatened by Naira Marley and his camp after trying to exit the label and change his management.
In the latest interview, Sam Larry defended himself, claiming innocence and even played an audio of rapper Zlatan Ibile allegedly supporting his version of events. However, Zlatan reportedly refused to make a public statement. This led VDM to issue Zlatan a 48-hour ultimatum to respond publicly—an action many viewed as deflecting from the real issue.
As a result, online users have accused VDM of being manipulative and not holding Sam Larry accountable during the interview. Some described the session as biased and lacking empathy, while others resurfaced old videos of Mohbad detailing the abuse he faced from Sam Larry and Naira Marley. The development has further fueled public outrage and renewed calls for justice over Mohbad’s death.
