What Caused Delay in the Burial of Sylvester Oromoni

Recalling the tragic incident, Sylvester Oromoni, a student at a Lagos school, passed away in November 2021 amid allegations of bullying by his seniors. The school management, however, denied these claims, asserting that the boy sustained injuries while playing football with his schoolmates.

Following Sylvester’s death, a legal battle unfolded between the deceased’s parents and the school management. The parents contended that their son had no pre-existing health issues before the tragic incident. Sylvester Oromoni Sr., the father, insisted in 2021 that his son would not be laid to rest until justice was served.

An autopsy conducted in January 2022 revealed that the 12-year-old Dowen student died from ‘acute lung injury from chemical intoxication in a background of blunt force.’ However, a second report from the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) in Lagos concluded that his death was natural, leading to disagreements with the family over the circumstances surrounding Sylvester’s passing.
