The clip captures the moment President Trump, impressed by Boakai’s English accent, asked about his educational background during a diplomatic meeting.
President Boakai had just expressed Liberia’s interest in partnering with the United States to support regional peace and stability. In response, Trump remarked, “You speak good. Where did you learn to speak so beautiful English? You were educated where?”, a question that drew both praise and amusement from viewers.
Boakai replied that he was educated in Liberia, prompting Trump to commend his fluency. The Liberian president is an alumnus of the College of West Africa, a top secondary school in the country, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Liberia in 1972. The exchange has since been widely shared, with many highlighting it as a moment of light diplomacy.
