Why I allowed Muslims to address my congregation from the pulpit at my church conference – Pastor Kumuyi reveals

Pastor William Kumuyi, the General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has addressed his decision to invite Muslim clerics to speak at his Change Makers International (CMI) conference.

This initiative, aimed at tackling Nigeria’s pressing social and spiritual challenges, has drawn attention for its inclusive approach, bringing together diverse faiths to address the nation’s critical issues.

The non-denominational and non-religious event, currently making headlines, held its inaugural conference at Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt. Here, both pastors and Muslim clerics engaged in a series of transformative discussions.

In a powerful sermon, Pastor Kumuyi defended his decision to include Muslim clerics, a move that has sparked debate and intrigue. He emphasized the importance of Christians viewing followers of other faiths as true neighbors, advocating for a shift from mere tolerance to meaningful connection.

Pastor Kumuyi explained the symbolic significance of allowing Muslim clerics to speak from his pulpit, challenging traditional church norms to demonstrate his commitment to inclusivity. He also noted that the conference was held in a stadium, not within a church, highlighting its open and inclusive nature.

Further underscoring his message, Pastor Kumuyi expressed his willingness to wear traditional Muslim caps if asked, showing his genuine commitment to embracing others as neighbors.
