Award-winning Nigerian singer, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, professionally known as Wizkid, has explained why he is not enthusiastic about prestigious awards like the Grammy Awards.
The Grammy Awards for 2024 have been a hot topic on social media after the 66th edition took place on February 4th, 2023, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, USA. Unfortunately, Nigerian artists including Davido, Burna Boy, Olamide, Ayra Starr, Asake, and Tems did not receive any awards.
Netizens have resurfaced a past tweet from Wizkid where he shared his disinterest in publicizing award nominations. Wizkid stated that he doesn’t care much because many awards and shows are created by a specific group of people.
Wizkid wrote; “I don’t post about nominations or talk about awards cos I don’t really care to be honest.
Just a bunch of peeps putting together a show!”
In 2021, Wizkid garnered significant attention by securing a Grammy award for his collaborative contribution to the 2019 Beyoncé hit track, “Brown Skin Girl.” Wizkid emerged victorious in the ‘Best Music Video’ category, marking a notable achievement in his career.
