“These guys are criminals”- Governor Diri Budgets N700M For 50 Torchlights

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has sparked outrage after allocating ₦700 million in the 2024 budget for 50 torchlights and 100 walkie-talkies for the Bayelsa Community Safety Corps. This revelation has raised eyebrows, with many questioning the priority and justification for such an expense.

The allocation is part of a larger budget that includes ₦4.6 billion for 20 Hilux and SUVs and ₦1.2 billion for government printing machines. Critics argue that these expenditures demonstrate a disregard for the current economic hardships faced by residents.

Social media users have expressed their dissatisfaction, with some labeling the governor’s actions as “financial recklessness” and “money laundering”. Others have criticized the EFCC for being ineffective in addressing such issues.
