On December 11th, 2023, Victor Osimhen, the 24-year-old forward for Napoli and the Super Eagles, was bestowed with the prestigious 2023 CAF Men’s Player of the Year Award at the event held in Marrakesh, Morocco. Osimhen secured the highest number of votes, surpassing competitors such as Egypt’s Mohammed Salah and Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi.
This remarkable achievement marks Osimhen as the first Nigerian to claim the CAF Men’s Player of the Year title since Nwankwo Kanu in 1999. Osimhen’s stellar 2023 included leading Napoli to its first Italian Serie A title in 30 years, where he emerged as the league’s top scorer with 25 goals.
Additionally, Osimhen played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s AFCON 2024 qualification campaign, finishing as the series’ leading goal scorer with ten goals.
